Heavy Metals Accumulation in Sediment Cores of the Municipal Lake of Yaounde, Cameroon

چکیده
Heavy metal (Pb, Zn, Cu, Cr, Ni, Mn and Cd) concentrations were investigated for the first time in core sediments of the Municipal Lake of Yaounde, Cameroon. The area under study receives domestic raw sewage from surrounding populated neighborhoods through River Mingoa, main tributary of the lake. Other activities like automobile service stations, garages, non operational effluent treatment station, anarchistic disposal of domestic waste and the use of chemicals in the marshy zone for agriculture and mosquitoes control are carried out in the sloping side of River Mingoa and the lake. Levels of Pb, Zn, Cu, Cr and Cd in sediment cores were above average shale values. Except for Ni, the contamination factor (C ) of other metals was greater than 1. f The geoaccumulation indices (Igeo) indicate that the lake sediment cores are moderately to very strongly polluted with Pb, Zn, Cu, Cr and Cd. This accumulation is strongly related to the cited activities. They were very high positive correlations among the metals and principal component analysis (PCA) reveals three components in the upper layer (79.863%), two components in the middle (75.203%) and lower (73.181%) layers, respectively.

Present study aims to unravel the hydro geochemical interaction of sediment and water of Saheb bandh lake, West Bengal, India with an emphasis on heavy metal assessment. Lake water belongs to Ca2+–HCO3− type hydro geochemical faces and water-rock interaction primarily controls the lake water chemistry. Based on different Hydro chemical characteristics it is suggested that silicate weathering is...

Maharlou Lake, as the largest water body neighboring to the metropolis of Shiraz, plays a significant role in adjusting the ecosystem of the region. The objective of this study was to evaluate mineralogy and heavy metals enrichment in the surface sediments of the Maharlou Lake. The result showed a decreasing trend of heavy metals concentrations in studied region surface sediments as follows: Sr...
متن کاملConcentrations of metals in water, sediment and tissues of Cyprinus carpio L., 1758 from Mogan Lake (Turkey)
In this study, some metals (aluminium, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, lead, zinc and vanadium) and metalloid (silicon) were determined in water, sediment and some tissues of fish Cyprinus carpio from Mogan Lake. Fish samples were caught in March 2007. As a result of the examination of metals in the water aluminium has the lowest and silicon has the highest concentration. In sediment samples...
متن کاملInvestigation of heavy metals accumulation in the sediment and body of carp fish in Aras River
Heavy metals are considered as the most dangerous water contaminants because of their possibility of bioaccumulation and toxic effects. This study tried to investigate the bio-availability of heavy metals in terms of Ni, Zn, Cu, Fe, Hg, Cd, and Pb in the sediment during dry seasons in Aras River basin located in Ardabil Province, north-west of Iran. Also the metal concentration in the skin and ...
